Former Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton headed for new NFL team

Justin Hamilton, the former Virginia Tech defensive coordinator, spent last season with Mike Vrabel and the Titans cutting his teeth in the NFL with a defensive quality control role.

With Vrabel out in Tennessee, Hamilton is set for a new role with an NFL organization.

The Athletic shares that Hamilton is set to join the Indianapolis Colts. Sources confirm the move to FootballScoop.

His title will be assistant defensive backs coach, per the report.

Hamilton was the defensive coordinator for the Hokies, and coached the safeties for two seasons, in 2020 and 2021.

He climbed the ranks in Blacksburg, starting off in a director of player development role working with the defensive side before being elevated to safeties coach after a season in 2019.

A former 7th round pick out of Virginia Tech, Hamilton spent time with the Browns and Redskins before starting his coaching career.

He was the defensive coordinator at UVA-Wise (D-II) for a few seasons before making the jump to VMI, where he worked with the linebackers and served as co-special teams coordinator.

Now the 41-year old former college coach will head to collect experience at his second NFL team.
