As signing day happened around the country yesterday, there were plenty of feel-good and inspiring stories of players overcoming adversity or hardships to earn opportunities at the next level circulating.
But the best story of signing day had to come out from Arizona.
18 years ago, Brent Brennan was a young assistant at San Jose State grinding away as the team's receivers coach. They bought a house right across the street from Courtney's Brennan's best friends and high school classmates, Krista and Evan Ford.
In fact, as Brent shared, he was gone so much grinding away coaching and Krista was gone so much for her job with Nike that many thought Evan (Ford) and Courtney (Brennan) were actually married.
Suffice to say, the two families were extremely tight and had a special bond.
Just how inseparable were the two families?
On the day that the Ford's gave birth to Kellan, Brennan and Courtney showed up to the hospital, and Brent hand-delivered an offer letter for the newborn.
"The day he was born I handed his parents an offer letter and said, when he's ready, I want him."
With a father that played football at Washington State, and a mother that played soccer at Washington, it was a uniquely kind gesture that came full circle yesterday when Kellan, who developed into a standout 3-star tight end at Monte Vista HS (CA), signed to play for Brennan at Arizona.
Hear Brennan provide some more details of the story in the clip.

Seriously.
“I’m glad I brought that letter to the hospital the day he was born. It’s going to pay off big time for the Arizona Wildcats.”
