Sources: Texas and Steve Sarkisian add former Michigan coordinator to staff (Featured)

Sources tell FootballScoop Steve Sarksian and the Longhorns are adding a former Big Ten coordinator to the staff.

Steve Casula, who climbed the ranks at Michigan under Jim Harbaugh and then Sherrone Moore, has joined the Longhorns coaching staff as an analyst, sources share.

Casula most recently held the co-offensive coordinator title under Moore in Ann Arbor, where he also developed the tight ends.

Twice during his time in Ann Arbor, Casula - who had briefly accepted a position on staff at Missouri - was elevated to the interim play caller role for the Wolverines offense.

In 2024, for the team's ReliaQuest bowl matchup with Alabama, Casula was name interim offensive coordinator following the dismissal of Kirk Campbell. Again, in 2025, after Wolverines offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey left the program following the departure of Sherrone Moore, Casula was named the offensive point man for their 2025 Citrus Bowl game against - ironically - Texas.

A veteran college assistant with successful stops a the D-II, FCS, Group of Six and Power Four levels, the job in Austin marks the Delaware native's furthest job south after a career spanning the midwest and east coast.

In his first season in an on-field role for the Wolverines in 2024, Casula helped develop Mackey Award finalist Colston Loveland tally 79 catches for nearly 800 yards, shattering the previous record of catches by a tight end (56) for the program. Loveland would go on to be the 10th overall pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Casula spent 2019 as an analyst before being elevated to a senior analyst role for the 2020 and 2021 seasons, and left to join Don Brown's staff at UMass as offensive coordinator for the 2022-23 seasons.

Outside of his experience at Michigan and UMass, Casula started his career as a graduate assistant under Bill Cubit at Western Michigan before being elevated to tight ends and fullbacks coach for the 2012 campaign.

He spent a season at the FCS level at Colgate, working with the same positions, before a return to Michigan where he landed his first offensive coordinator job at Davenport (D-II - MI), where he was the first assistant football coach hired in school history as the program began their build from scratch under newly minted Ravens defensive line coach (and former Michigan defensive line coach) Lou Esposito.

Casula spent a few seasons as the offensive coordinator Tony Annese at Ferris State early on in Tony Annese's build of the program that has developed into a national power from 2017-18 before joining the Michigan staff. While in Big Rapids, the Bulldogs went 16-3 with Casula leading the offense, and he led former Michigan State commit and quarterback Jayru Campbell to the 2018 Harlon Hill Trophy as the top player in Division II football.
