Shane Beamer, South Carolina make move at linebackers coach (Featured)

South Carolina and Shane Beamer are continuing to revamp the Gamecocks coaching staff following a disappointing 2025 season.

The latest move comes from within.

Beamer and the Gamecocks are elevating longtime staff member Trey Money from inside linebackers coach to running the entire linebackers corps.

Money owns previous experience in the Atlantic Coast Conference at Georgia Tech, where he worked with the inside linebackers.

An Appalachian State alumnus who worked an extended duration at his alma mater, he's been both a student-assistant coach for the Mountaineers and a graduate assistant.

His first four seasons at South Carolina have seen Money steadily climb the coaching ladder in Beamer's Gamecocks program. Starting as a graduate assistant, he elevated to analyst and then climbed further to inside linebackers coach.

Now, he's got the Gamecocks' entire linebackers room to himself for the first time in his coaching career.

South Carolina closed out the 2025 season with a 4-8 mark after a 2-0 start to the campaign. The Gamecocks open their 2026 season with three-straight home games. They open with Kent State, followed by Football Championship Subdivision program Towson and then the onset of Southeastern Conference play Sept. 19 against Mississippi State.

After winning 15 games in his first two seasons in Columbia, South Carolina, Beamer is seeking to return to those winning campaigns after posting an 18-19 mark the past three seasons.
