Mike Tomlin had become the face of the Steelers over nearly two decades leading the franchise.
However, in a team meeting earlier today, Tomlin reportedly shared with players he is stepping down from his longtime post with the storied organization following the team's recent early playoff exit.
Ian Rapoport shares that his move is not only a step away from Pittsburgh, but also plans to step away from coaching altogether to take a break.
Tomlin has long had offers to join TV networks as an analyst waiting for him, and other NFL teams will certainly take their shot at him as well.
In 19 seasons leading the team, Tomlin developed a Hall of Fame legacy among players and fans while leading the team to a Super Bowl victory, and incredibly enough, he never had a losing season.
Tomlin's tenure in Pittsburgh ends with a 193-114-2 regular season record with the Super Bowl XLIII title.
The organization now begins their search for just their fourth head coach since 1969 (Chuck Knoll, Bill Cowher and then Tomlin).
The Steelers now become the ninth NFL head coaching opening, meaning we've officially eclipsed the 25% mark of NFL teams that will have new head coaches this fall. Other teams with openings include the Steelers, Ravens, Browns, Giants, Titans, Falcons, Cardinals, Raiders, and Dolphins.

With Tomlin stepping away, and John Harbaugh back on the market with his time in Baltimore expired, the longest tenured head coach in the NFL now lies with Andy Reid in Kansas City.
