Sources: Ashley Ingram overhauling VMI staff (Featured)

After record-breaking success at longtime NCAA Division II power Carson-Newman University the past two years, Ashley Ingram is now atop the Football Championship Subdivision program at VMI, with the school last week announcing Ingram's hire to replace the departed Danny Rocco.

Architect of Carson-Newman's option offense and a longtime assistant coach under ex-Navy head man and current San Jose State coach Ken Niumatalolo, Ingram is beginning to dramatically reshape his VMI Keydets offensive coaching staff, sources tell FootballScoop.

Gone from the VMI staff is virtually all of the Keydets' offensive coaches from the 2025 season, including the exits of Greg Meyer, AJ Hampton, Keith Jones and Elliott Wratten, sources tell FootballScoop.

JB Lageman, the Keydets' defensive running game coordinator and defensive line coach, as well as Greg Wood, special teams coordinator and in charge of player personnel and video, are both expected to remain with the VMI program, sources told FootballScoop.

The status of a couple of other incumbent assistant coaches was not specified.

Ingram takes over at VMI following 16 wins in two years at Carson-Newman, where he rebuilt the Eagles following their 2023 losing season and guided them into the NCAA Division II Playoffs in his debut campaign.

VMI won 12 games in the 2020-21 seasons, including a rare Southern Conference Championship and spot in the FCS Playoffs, but has since won just eight total games in four seasons following those back-to-back winning campaigns.
