Sources: Casey Woods tabs former Big 12 assistant for Missouri State offensive coordinator (Featured)

Mark Cala has coached extensively in the Big 12 Conference at TCU and in the Southeastern Conference at the University of Arkansas.

Now, he's poised to run the offense for a former Tennessee Vol.

Cala is going to become the first offensive coordinator in Casey Woods' Missouri State program, sources tell FootballScoop. He departs from his role in Scotty Walden's UTEP program where he also served as the offensive coordinator during the 2025 season.

After three seasons in Arkansas when Sam Pittman was atop the Razorbacks program, where Cala served as an offensive analyst and assistant quarterbacks coach, he transitioned to Sonny Dykes' TCU program for two years as the Horned Frogs on-field quarterbacks coach.

Cala also has been on staff at Florida State, Houston and Florida Atlantic (FAU).

He's a Puget Sound alum.

Woods was hired atop the Missouri State program last month to replace the departed Ryan Beard, who was hired away into the head coaching job at Coastal Carolina.

Missouri State successfully transitioned from an Football Championship Subdivision program into Football Bowls Subdivision play during its time under Beard.

The Bears are scheduled to open their 2026 season under Woods on Sept. 5 at Texas A&M, led by third-year coach Mike Elko and coming off a trip to the College Football Playoffs.
