After a 27-10 loss to North Carolina over the weekend, and with a trip to a ranked Miami squad coming up this weekend, sources tell FootballScoop that Fran Brown is making some changes to his Syracuse staff.
Sources tell FootballScoop that the changes involve quarterbacks coach Nunzio Campanile and pass game / wide receivers coach Myles White.
Nunzio, a former standout high school coach at Bergen Catholic (NJ), is in his second season on staff after previously spent a number of seasons on staff at Rutgers and the 2023 season as the interim head coach for the Orange. Nunz is expected to move into a different role within the staff.
White spent the 2024 season on staff with the Green Bay Packers as an offensive assistant, and has previous collegiate stops at Miami (OH), Stephen F. Austin, and SMU with a six-year professional career to his credit as well.
The changes on offense come after Syracuse has struggled at quarterback following the Achilles injury to quarterback Steve Angeli, who transferred to Brown's program following a few seasons as part of Notre Dame's program.
The Orange started off picking up right where their 10-win 2024 campaign left off, starting 3-1 under Angeli before the injury. But they slid to 0-4 under Rickie Collins heading into the weekend's game against Bill Belichick and UNC.
Brown had defended breaking in their new quarterback the last several weeks, but with results lacking, it felt likely that change at the position was coming heading into this weekend.
“I can’t do that no more,” Brown shared with ESPN Radio Syracuse earlier this week regarding the decision to keep Collins as the starter. “I love Rickie, man. He’s a little brother to me, but he had a month straight of me sticking by him and doing everything the right way and being more supportive of him. I’m very, very supportive of every one of my players.
“Everything that happens bad is on Coach Fran. I told some of the coaches that we should have catered to [Collins] more. But he had a month of running the program. We were 3-1 under Steve’s time and under Rickie we were 0-4. You’ve got to open that competition up and give us an opportunity to win.”
In the loss to the Tar Heels over the weekend, Joseph Filardi (who has an impressive background as one of the top lacrosse recruits in the country coming out of high school) stepped in and went 4-for-18 for 39 yards with no touchdowns in the loss.
After the game, Brown noted “A lot of times you just want to blame the quarterback, but there’s a lot of other factors at play.”
After facing Miami on Saturday, Syracuse will travel to take on top ten Notre Dame before ending their season against Boston College.
Have a listen to Fran speak following their game Friday night.

Update >> Brown confirmed these changes today at his presser, announcing Myles White is no longer with the program and offensive analyst and former Maryland, Michigan and Miami offensive coordinator Josh Gattis is stepping in to coach the receivers. Also, Mike Johnson will move from tight ends to quarterbacks and switch spots with Nunzio Campanile.
