At one point or another during the season, it seems like every program rolls out their own twist on "Military Appreciation Day" event. It usually includes a very basic red, white, and blue tweak to their uniform, logo, or helmet of some kind.
In my opinion, adding a splash of red, white and blue to your uniform isn't even scratching the surface of honoring the men and women who put their lives on the line for the lives we all enjoy. Then again, how do you find a way to appropriately commemorate that kind of sacrifice?
That's where Oregon's spring game comes in. This is the second year that Mark Helfrich's program has used their spring game to honor the men and women of the military. Players literally peel the custom spring game uniforms from their pads and hand it to a thankful military man or woman.
This year Oregon allowed cameras in the locker room as their military guests joined them after the game, and captured the special moments that the program has built with our US Military.
I don't know if there is ever anything that a football program can do to honor our military men and women, but Oregon is coming about as close as it gets.
