Mark Helfrich and his staff at Oregon are stepping up and giving back in a big way to help low-income students attend the University of Oregon, the school has announced.
As part of the PathwayOregon program, Helfrich and his staff have agreed to match donations made before the spring game (May 2) to the tune of up to $250,000. Let that soak in a second - because that's a quarter million dollars coming from their own pockets for low-income kids to attend college in Eugene.
“Our coaching staff is very excited to join two powerful forces – the passion of our great fans and educational opportunities for Oregonians in need,” Helfrich said in the official release. “We benefit every day from the support of the people of Oregon. With a donation to PathwayOregon now, and our match, we all get together for a fantastic cause.”
The PathwayOregon program helps to provide full tuition, fees, and advising support for nearly 2,000 Oregon high school graduates who meet specific income restrictions and are high achievers in the classroom.
Great move, for a great cause. Classy move by Helfrich and his staff.
