Facing 4th and 19 inside their own 5-yard line, BYU faked a punt last night (Featured)

Early in the second quarter of the BYU vs. Boise State game last night, BYU was facing 4th and 19 from inside their own four-yard line so they brought out their punt team.

Except, even with the punter's heels just a yard from the back of the end zone, BYU decided not to punt, and instead ran a designed fake.

As you can imagine, it didn't turn out too well.

Perhaps even crazier than the call was that it didn't end up immediately hurting BYU. Boise State got backed up on a personal foul to the 17 yard line and ended up missing a field goal after the offense couldn't get anything going. Asked after the game what his thought process was for the call, first-year head coach Kalani Sitake responded:

If it would have went for a 96-yard touchdown, or even a first down, everyone would love the gutsy call, but it didn't work out that way, and at the end of the day, Boise State couldn't convert it to points, so no harm done.

Social media was ripe with opinions on the call, and the Cougars would go on to lose 28-27, marking their fourth loss by single digits. BYU currently sits at 4-4 with games against Cincinnati, FCS Southern Utah, UMass, and Utah State left.
