UVA and head coach Bronco Mendenhall have agreed to a contract extension through the 2024 football season, the school announced today. The extension tacks on two years on the original deal.
Director of athletics Carla Williams shared the following via the school's release:
"We are excited about the direction of the Virginia football program under the guidance and leadership of Bronco Mendenhall," Williams said. "He has done an exceptional job of establishing a culture of excellence on the field, in the community and in the classroom. He is driven to elevate Virginia Football to a championship standard in all areas and the Athletics Master Plan is evidence of our commitment to Coach Mendenhall, his staff and our student-athletes. I am excited about the future and we look forward to continued progress under his leadership."
Bronco is entering his fourth season overseeing a turnaround at Virginia, improving aa two-win program his first season, to six wins in year two and eight wins last season.
"I am proud of the progress our football program has made the past three seasons We still have a lot of work to do. We're not there yet. We're just getting started. I look forward to the challenges ahead as we continue our pursuit of building a championship program," Mendenhall shares in the release.
Before coming to UVA, Bronco led the BYU program to an 99-43 record over 11 seasons.
As a head coach at BYU and Virginia, Mendenhall holds a career mark of 115-65.
