Sources tell FootballScoop that Nevada head coach Jay Norvell is making some significant changes to the Wolf Pack staff on the defensive side of the ball.
We understand that Jeff Casteel (DC / LBs), Mike Chamoures (safeties), and David Lockwood (secondary) will not return to the staff. The lone other member of the defensive staff is defensive line coach Jackie Shipp.
While at West Virginia, Casteel helped to bring the 3-3-5 defense into the mainstream leading them to top 20 finishes in scoring defense a number of times. Casteel then took his defensive approach to Arizona for four seasons, and got mixed results in his time in Tucson.
Nevada finished the season 7-5 and will play Ohio in the Idaho Potato Bowl in early January.
In their five losses this season, the defense allowed a lot of points. 77 at Oregon, 54 to Hawaii, 36 at Utah State, 31 at Wyoming and 33 in a season ending loss vs UNLV.
No word yet as to where Norvell will look to fill the coordinator spot.
