According to sources tonight, FAU is preparing an offer with the intent to keep Lake Kiffin in Boca Raton.
We continue to hear that Lane is in talks with Arkansas, but have also heard throughout the process that even if the Razorbacks ultimately decided to approach Lane with an offer, it was far from a foregone conclusion that he would leave Boca.
There's still a good chance Lane may end up in Fayetteville, but sources tell us to not count out FAU's chances at convincing him of the lure of continuing to coach in paradise.
Our understanding is that a nice pay increase will go a long way in keeping Kiffin in Boca, as the challenges of competing in the rugged SEC West with the likes of Alabama and Auburn and the rebuild necessary to do that in Fayetteville will require significant work.
We were reminded that FAU loaned Lane an awfully large amount of money to buy his home. If he finishes out the 2021 season at FAU, he doesn't have to repay that loan.
Kiffin, the former head coach at USC and recent graduate of the Nick Saban school of head coaching preparation from his time as the Tide's offensive coordinator, has gone 25-13 in two seasons leading the Owls and will lead the program into the C-USA title game this weekend for the second time in those three seasons.
