This afternoon, the Buffalo Bills made the announcement that they had hired Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as their new offensive play caller.
Daboll, a former tight ends coach under Bill Belichick with the Patriots, rejoins the NFL ranks after one season with Nick Saban at Alabama, where he helped lead the Crimson Tide back to the national title.
With Daboll gone, Nick Saban is now looking for his fourth offensive coordinator in just over a year.
The movement started with Lane Kiffin leaving Tuscaloosa after three seasons calling the shots on offense for the head coaching job at FAU, which led to the promotion of analyst (and former USC and Washington head coach) Steve Sarkisian to offensive coordinator leading up to the Tide's national title game against Clemson last year. Following their loss in the national title game, Sark decided to leave for an offensive coordinator job in the NFL with the Falcons. Saban then decided to hire an old colleague in Daboll, as the two had worked together at Michigan State in the late-90's, and Daboll helped Alabama return to their run-first roots with some great spread concepts as well and helped them reclaim the top spot.
While they've turned over play callers like no other program in college football the past 14 months, the stability that Saban has been able to deliver to the program with each hire is pretty impressive. The fact that they'll be replacing both coordinators, and will likely still be a favorite to win the national title last year is remarkable.
