When Matt Rhule decided to leave Temple for Baylor, he had a very good idea of the challenge that lay ahead of him. As with any coach taking over a new program, a big part of his success early on will hinge on identifying and establishing leadership on his new team.
Asked about how that's coming after practice late last week, Rhule explained his view on leadership and as fall creeps closer and closer, it's something that coaches can share with their teams who are looking for leadership to step up.
A lot of times when leadership is talked about, one immediately thinks about it coming from upperclassmen, and seniors in particular - especially at the high school level. But according to Rhule that's not always the case, because it leadership was a person, it wouldn't care how old you are. He has a great point.
"We have some of our older seniors that are banged up," Rhule explained, before rattling off a few names. "So there are a lot of kids out there that are young. But ya know what? It doesn't matter how old you are. Leadership doesn't know age, it just knows production."
"I think you see some guys starting to step up and show it a little bit more," Rhule said before adding, "but we'll need a lot more of it as we move forward."
