When a college football team like Ohio State has things rolling on the field and in recruiting like they have dating back to when Urban Meyer took the program over back in 2012, the on-field coaches get a lot of the due credit, while the off-field staff often get overlooked.
That's not exactly the case at Ohio State, as the Buckeyes have found a way to retain and add titles and responsibilities to their key off-field staff that ensures they aren't overlooked by the folks that know how the program is being built behind the scenes.
Meyer brought a few key off-field personnel with him from Florida to Columbus that are now widely considered to be some of the best at their respective positions in all of college football, in particular associate athletic director Brian Voltolini and assistant athletic director, player personnel Mark Pantoni. Each of their respective titles provide only a glimpse into how valuable the program feels they are to their overall success and how they contribute to their unique culture.
According to Eleven Warriors, both Voltolini and Pantoni are getting raises.
Voltolini is getting a pay bump of just over $11,000 to $237,587 and Pantoni will now make an even $200,000 continuing to lead the Buckeye recruiting efforts, which amounts to a raise of about $12,750.
Those two key guys providing stability with the program, along with assistant athletic director for sports performance Mickey Marotti (who also recently got a nice pay bump as well), is going to be a huge asset for Day as he leads the Buckeyes into his first fall, and beyond, as head coach.
The article points out the salaries of a number of other key off-field personnel as well, as of January 31st. Among them are; assistant athletic director of player development Ryan Stamper ($165k), executive director for football relations Tim Hinton ($159k), associate athletic director of sports performance Doug Calland ($145k), and associate director of strength and conditioning Phil Matusz ($111,300).
The behind the scenes infrastructure remains in place at Ohio State with the new contracts and raises for Voltolini, Pantoni, and Marotti, and now the college football landscape anxiously awaits what the results come fall will look like.
