Chip Kelly has been given more control of the franchise and will remain in Philadelphia (Featured)

Earlier today, word got out that Chip Kelly had "expressed interest in getting out of his contract," sending the Philadelphia fan base into a brief panic, while fans of teams with a head coaching opening dreamed of landing Kelly.

Changes seemed to be on the horizon in Philly, but it appears that they've found a solution to keep Kelly in Philly.

Earlier in the week, the Eagles decided to part ways with VP of player personnel Tom Gamble and word from local outlets was that Kelly was not happy with the decision.

Now, Kelly will be directly in charge of recruiting and hiring a new personnel executive that will report directly to him, as well as direct supervision of all scouts, thus giving Kelly a much bigger hand in the draft process and overall personnel of his roster moving forward.

“We are a good football team and we believe these steps will help make us a great team," Egales Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie stated in the official release. "That step - from good to great - is the most difficult one for any organization to make. To do that, sometimes you have to step back and really look hard at where you are today and what you want to become."

Giving a guy like Chip complete control of the roster is a smart move. He's already shown he can win with a number of different quarterbacks under center, which is hard enough to do in the NFL, so this seems like a move in the right direction for the franchise. Fans should be very happy. Granted, the NFL is a very different animal, but just look at what he was able to do at Oregon with complete control of his roster (46-7 in four seasons).

Also announced in the official release was GM Howie Roseman's promotion to executive vice president of football operations. Roseman has been with the Eagles for 16 years in a variety of roles, and has served as GM since 2010.

Kelly is 20-12 as the Eagles head coach in two regular seasons leading the organization, with an 0-1 playoff record.
