For all the CFL-NFL similarities, America's northern neighbors lean into some of their wacky rules.
Forget onside kicks.
The CFL embraces the rare "onside punt."
Montreal might need to offer a clinic.
Holding onto an 16-9 lead in the third quarter last Friday, the Alouettes were set to turn over possession.
Coach Jason Maas didn't like his team's second-and-20 predicament.
So he called on a running back -- Jeshrun Antwi -- to execute an onside punt.
CFL rules allow a team to punt the ball at any time and any player behind the ball when it is kicked, including the punter, may recover the kick.
So Antwi muffed the ball a yard forward after he caught a pass from starting quarterback Cody Fajardo.
