Tulsa reportedly set to fill defensive coordinator opening (Tulsa)

Kevin Wilson is reportedly set to fill his opening at defensive coordinator with a hire from the FCS level.

Tennessee-Martin (FCS) defensive coordinator Chris Polizzi is expected to join Wilson's staff as the defensive play caller and safeties coach.

Adam Rittenberg shared the news this morning, and we can confirm the hire.

Polizzi helped UT Martin capture back-to-back conference titles, and previously spent time in the Big Ten at Iowa, and also at UCLA.

Sources tell FootballScoop that linebackers coach Koy McFarland and defensive backs coach Michael Hunter will serve as run game coordinator and pass game coordinator, respectively.

Also, special teams coordinator Joe Bolden (who was previously listed as a defensive assistant) will work alongside associate head coach and defensive line coach Ron Burton with the defensive line, per source.

Wilson had previously brought Matt Guerrieri on board as his defensive coordinator initially, as the two previously worked together at Ohio State where Guerrieri was a senior advisor and defensive analyst after spending a decade at Duke where he rose from graduate assistant to co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.

Guerrieri left after a month at Tulsa for an opportunity to be the co-defensive coordinator / safeties coach at Indiana.
