Jason Candle is entering year nine leading the Toledo program and he and his staff approach this fall coming off a nine-win season where they won the MAC.
Today, Candle announced an impressive hire that beefs up a star-studded defensive staff that already includes Vince Kehres, Ross Watson, and Corey Parker.
The latest addition to the Rockets staff brings with him coaching experience in the NFL and Big 12.
Frank Okam has joined the Toledo staff, and will be the new defensive line coach.
Okam spent two seasons coaching at Baylor, where he led a unit that obliterated the school record with 46 sacks in 2019 and helped to produce five players that would go on to play in the NFL.
He spent the past few seasons in the NFL.
The 2020 and 2021 seasons he was with Matt Rhule in Carolina before he left to join the Las Vegas Raiders staff heading into the 2022 season.
Okam was a two-time All Big 12 and All American selection at Texas, where he helped lead the team to the 2006 BCS National title. He was a 5th round pick of the Houston Texans and would go on to play for the Texans, Seahawks, Bucs and Giants before retiring in 2013.
