Alcorn State’s Receiver Driven RPO Evolution:All 11 personnel RPO offenses strive to throw off the number seven defender. But too many times defenses dictate a throw read into spacing that is not conducive to generating completions, leading to contested balls and putting receivers into harm’s way. The researchers at X&O Labs have studied how the offensive staff at Alcorn State University (MS) modified its RPO system to allow its receivers (not its coordinator) to call the pass contours based on the depth and leverage of defenders. X&O Labs talked with offensive coordinator Elliott Wratten and wide receiver coach Jason Phillips on the parameters and rules they teach their receivers to use when communicating these routes pre-snap to the QB. This paradigm shift has eliminated high-risk throws such as bubbles into cloud corners or glances into poor down safety leverage. X&O Labs will email this exclusive report next Tuesday to their 60,000 readers—and you can get it sent to your email, too. Don’t miss out! Go here to get on the list.
