The position is renewable semester by semester. This is an educational internship experience with no remuneration. The internship hours may be countable toward the CSCCa’s Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified practicum requirements. Tennessee: The University of Tennessee Football Sports Performance Department is accepting applications for volunteer intern positions for the Spring 2024 Semester. This internship will run from the middle of January through April, with exact dates to be released during the interview process. The ideal candidate should be seeking a career as a strength and conditioning coach. Candidates will be exposed to all facets of an NCAA Division 1 FBS Football strength and conditioning program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to hands on experience assisting with the daily operations of the weight room, GPS implementation, velocity-based training via Elite Form, creating a positive training environment and facility maintenance. This internship will include a comprehensive curriculum to maximize professional development via educational resources and practical procedures. Intern coaches will be assessed periodically and directly throughout the semester. Two meals a day will be provided to coaches during the working hours of the internship. Required Qualifications: CPR/AED certified, a desire to become a strength and conditioning professional, high character, great work ethic, a sense of urgency, and high attention to detail. Candidates should be strong in relationship building with athletes and other staff along with a desire to learn every day of the semester. Former playing experience and accredited certification are preferred. Candidates should be actively pursuing certification from the NSCA or CSCCa. Pitt: The University of Pittsburgh Football Sports Science department is currently seeking volunteer interns for the winter training and Spring practice period (January – April 2024). Applicants should have a strong desire to pursue a career in the field of sports science and/or football analytics. Interns will gain valuable sports science experience at a Division I football program and the opportunity to earn recommendations for future career opportunities. The Sports Science internship is designed for students seeking to advance their knowledge and skills related to understanding and improving sports performance and mitigating risk of injury. Primary areas of focus are education and training in sports science, nutrition, sports medicine, and research. The curriculum integrates formal instruction, research, and practical application experiences pertaining to multiple aspects of athletic and human performance. The Pitt football practicum site emphasizes the development of intern capabilities in programming in R and Shiny web app development. At Pitt football, students will gain valuable experience with real world datasets to enhance their ability to analyze, communicate, and report information pertaining to load monitoring, performance identification, injury risk, and forecasting. Daily responsibilities: Assist in daily operation of team’s sport science equipment including but not limited to Catapult GPS and Hawkin Dynamics force plates; Data collection and cleaning through Smartabase and Other duties as assigned Required: Ability to work early mornings and weekends; First Aid/CPR/AED certification (training can be provided) Preferred Qualifications/Experience;Previous football experience; Currently hold industry certification (NSCA, CSCCa, ASCA, UKSCA); Experience with or basic knowledge of the following: o GPS or LPS in sport o Force plate technology o Velocity-based training tools o Athlete management systems; Experience with or a desire to learn R for data analysis and visualization To apply send a brief cover letter, resume, and 3 professional references in one PDF to pap96@pitt.edu.
