Tennessee now has a second defensive staffer from Washington's 2023 College Football Playoff finalist program.
Sources tell FootballScoop that the Vols are adding Nick Brautigam to their defensive staff as an analyst.
It's a reunion for Brautigam, who rejoins William Inge -- hired late last month by coach Josh Heupel and defensive coordinator Tim Banks as replacement to Brian Jean-Mary after he departed to join Sherrone Moore's Michigan staff.
Inge had been the Huskies co-defensive coordinator and had accepted a position at Alabama before he called an audible to Rocky Top.
Brautigam logged two seasons at Washington as a defensive quality control coach after he spent three years as a collegiate defensive coordinator at NAIA program Montana Tech.
An Iowa native who played at Cornell College, Brautigam also has FBS experience from working at Northern Illinois with both the defense and special teams units.
He also was a defensive assistant at Western Illinois when he helped that program reach the FCS Playoffs in 2017.
The Vols just opened their fourth spring camp under Heupel.
Tennessee, which closed a 9-4 2023 campaign with an 35-0 romp of Iowa in the Citrus Bowl, opens its 2024 season Aug. 31 against Chattanooga. The Vols have a neutral site tilt against North Carolina State Sept. 7 in Charlotte, N.C., and then jump into SEC play two weeks later at Oklahoma.
