Fred McNair led Alcorn State on a five-game winning streak in 2023, and he won multiple SWAC divisional titles and overall league crowns during his run atop the Braves program.
But the two sides reached an impasse on a new contract in December, and McNair exited his alma mater.
He was nearly hired at Texas Southern and was in demand at other spots.
Now, he has a new job. Sources confirmed to FootballScoop Friday that McNair will be named as the new tight ends coach at Southern University, under first-year head coach Terrence Graves.
McNair won 48 games atop the Alcorn program; he had winning seasons in five of his final six years.
Southern hired Graves in mid-December as replacement to Eric Dooley.
The Jaguars open their 2024 season Aug. 31 against McNeese State.
