Sources tell FootballScoop that Southern Miss director of player personnel Joe Moreno has left for an opportunity in the NFL.
We're told he will be a player personnel assistant on John Harbaugh's staff with the Baltimore Ravens.
Moreno joined the Southern Miss staff in February of 2021 after previous stops at Harvard, Stanford and Aubur.
The job in Baltimore marks the former Division III running back and small college defensive line coach's first opportunity in the NFL.
To fill the role, sources share that assistant director of player personnel Landon Smith is being elevated to the director of player personnel position.
Smith, considered a rising star by many in the personnel world, has spent the last four seasons in Hattiesburg, and previously spent time with the UAB program as a football recruiting assistant.
He's also logged stops in operations and personnel with the Alliance of American Football and with the USA Football organization.
Smith will now head up the personnel department for Will Hall, who is entering his fourth season leading the program. Hall led the program for one season in C-USA before their 2022 move to the Sun Belt, and has put together two 3-9 seasons with a 7-6 year and win in the Lending Tree bowl in 2022 to compile a 13-24 mark heading into a critical year four.
