Pete Brown is reuniting with Willie Fritz, FootballScoop has learned.
A former defensive analyst at Tulane who helped Iowa Western win the 2022 NJCAA national title, Brown has accepted a position on Fritz's inaugural University of Houston staff, sources told FootballScoop.
Brown's coaching journey has been a fascinating trail, with work on both sides of the line of scrimmage and in both the collegiate and professional ranks.
He spent a year coaching linebackers for the San Diego Fleet of the now-defunct Alliance of American Footbal (AAF), but he's also gleaned major-college experience with stops at Iowa State and Louisville, where in the latter stop Brown helped coach the Cardinals quarterbacks the year that reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson won the coveted Heisman Trophy.
Brown's been a full-time, on-field assistant coach at Group of 5 program Nevada. He capped his three-year run at Iowa Western when the program won the 2022 NJCAA Division I national title.
Houston hired Fritz away from Tulane after Fritz posted record-breaking seasons atop the Green Wave in 2022-23.
The Cougars, now in the Big 12 Conference, are set to open their 2024 schedule Aug. 31 against UNLV before traveling a week later for a showdown at Oklahoma, which is transitioning this fall to membership in the Southeastern Conference.
