Entering a crucial 2023 season under coach Jeff Hafley, Boston College appears close to finalizing the hierarchy of its offensive staff for the future.
Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Hafley is working to elevate Rob Chudzinksi into the offensive coordinator role from Chudzinski's previous post with the Eagles as special assistant to the head coach.
A former NFL head coach with the Cleveland Browns, as well as an offensive coordinator in both the NFL and at his alma mater, Miami (Florida), Chudzinski brings decade of experience into an expanded role.
Additionally, sources tell FootballScoop that veteran Boston College assistant Steve Shimko is expected to be elevated into a co-offensive coordinator type of role within the program.
Shimko, a Rutgers graduate who's been on staff with the Eagles since Hafley was hired three years ago, also has coaching experience at one of the sport's top junior college programs -- Independence (Kansas) -- as well as Southeastern Conference experience at the University of Georgia under Mark Richt.
Finally, sources tell FootballScoop that the Eagles are perhaps seeking a reunion with former offensive line coach Matt Applebaum for the program's final offensive vacancy. Applebaum coached the Eagles' offensive line in the 2020-21 seasons before spending last season with the NFL's Miami Dolphins as their offensive line coach.
After the Eagles dipped to a 3-9 campaign in 2022, they open the upcoming season Sept. 2 against Northern Illinois.
