Sources: Beamer close to completing USC staff, adds Big Ten assistant (Clayton White)

Once again, new South Carolina coach Shane Beamer is on the verge of completing his first Gamecocks' staff.

Beamer is appointing veteran coach Jimmy Lindsey, most recently on Lovie Smith's final Illinois staff for the 2020 season, to become South Carolina's defensive line coach, sources confirmed to FootballScoop. The news was first reported by GamecockCentral.com's Chris Clark.

Lindsey's impending addition to the Gamecocks' defensive staff is a chance for some continuity on that side of the ball and a valuable teaching assistant for new coordinator Clayton White, who previously worked with Lindsey for multiple seasons at Western Kentucky.

White's and Lindsey's time working together could be a key in helping South Carolina transition forward in the Gamecocks' new defense.

The move also is almost a homecoming of sorts for Lindsey, who's from Morven, North Carolina, and has spent most of his time coaching in the South.

Lindsey has previous stops at his alma mater, Chattanooga, as well as Furman and Georgia Southern, in addition to the work at Western Kentucky.

Beamer's move to snag Lindsey now leaves just one vacant spot on the Gamecocks' staff: offensive line coach.

It's a position Beamer had filled with the hiring of Will Friend away from Tennessee, but Friend departed earlier this month with Mike Bobo to join Bryan Harsin's Auburn staff.
