With an opening on the defensive side of the ball, it appears that Jim Harbaugh is moving quickly to fill the vacancy.
Following the news that Mo Linguist was leaving Ann Arbor to become the new head coach at Buffalo a few days ago, Nick Baumgardner noted Kentucky defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale was a candidate to replace Linguist on Harbaugh's staff
Multiple reports, including from Bruce Feldman and Sam Webb, share today that Clinkscale is expected to join the Wolverines staff. The reports add that his role is expected to be working with the defensive backs.
Webb's report adds that he will also hold the pass game coordinator title in Ann Arbor.
A number of other outlets are now sharing the same.
Coach Clink has done an impressive job with the secondary in Lexington, helping guide the Wildcats defense to top four finishes in the SEC the past three straight seasons.
He joined Mark Stoops' staff back in 2016 after coaching the secondary in Cincinnati for three seasons. At Kentucky, he added the title of defensive passing game coordinator heading into the 2021 season.
Clinkscale has previously coached at Illinois, Toledo, Western Carolina (FCS), and Ashland (D-II - OH).
