South Carolina finalizing deal with their defensive coordinator (Featured)

Shane Beamer's first staff is nearing completion, with a defensive coordinator hire one of the key remaining openings on the staff.

Pete Thamel tweets today that South Carolina is finalizing a deal to hire Western Kentucky defensive coordinator Clayton White as the Gamecocks new defensive coordinator.

White, who also coaches the Hilltopper corners, has previous experience as an assistant at NC State, Stanford and UConn.

Earlier this year, White was named a Broyles Award nominee for the third time in four seasons with the program (2020, 2019, and 2017).

Through 11 games, the Hilltopper defense ranked in the top 25 in a number of key defensive categories including total defense, yards per play, pass completion against, and passing defense, among others.

Western Kentucky is expected to promote co-defensive coordinator Maurice Crum to replace White Bruce Feldman tweets.
