With the success, both on and off the field that Deion Sanders has brought to Colorado and Eddie George has had at Tennessee State (FCS), it was only a matter of time before more programs looked to duplicate the former standout player-turned-coach model.
According to a report from Adam Schefter this morning, FAU is exploring an intriguing NFL Hall of Famer to be their next head coach.
Schefter shares that former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis has emerged as a candidate to be the next head coach of the Owls.
A two-time Super Bowl Champion and Super Bowl MVP, Lewis has no coaching experience to speak of, but has appeared as an analyst on both ESPN and Fox since his retirement.
FAU announced the decision to part ways with Tom Herman two days ago after just under two seasons leading the Owls following a five-game losing streak to drop them to 2-8 on the year.
Deion Sanders has the Buffs in the hunt for a spot in the College Football Playoff, and George has Tennessee State sitting at 8-3, which is their most wins in a single season since 2013, despite landing the job prior to the 2021 season with no previous coaching experience.
The question everyone is wondering here is: If he ends up landing the FAU job, or any other head coaching job, Will Ray Lewis do his signature "Squirrel Dance" to lead the team out?
Here's to hoping that answer is a resounding "Absolutely."
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
