As South Carolina works through their list of candidates, West Virginia head coach Neal Brown's name is one that some had connected with the vacancy recently.
Brown, who has the Mountaineers sitting at 5-3 in year two with the program, addressed those rumors head on today at his weekly presser.
"I guess it's good because people are paying attention and believing that we're doing something right. So that's a positive in that manner. Several people told me that yesterday, and I haven't been real active on social media other than trying to promote my wife being on Instagram Live - and I'm trying to figure out what that is."
"It's funny. Everyone wants to be in you all's job right now," Brown responded, referring to the reporters in the room. "It used to be there are legitimate reports, now it's whoever has a social media account is a reporter.
“I’m not a candidate there. I really don’t go about addressing every rumor or everything like that that’s out there because I think you’ll spin yourself in a web, and I don’t think there’s anyway to keep up. It’s pretty simple - I’m not a candidate there.”
Brown went 5-7 in year one with the Mountaineers, and is 10-10 so far in his tenure there. At Troy he put together back-to-back-to-back double digit win seasons. After a 4-8 campaign in 2015, Brown led Troy to seasons of 10-3, 11-2, and 10-3, with each respective season ending in a bowl win.
