Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry found himself in the headlines last week following a passionate effort to bring a live tiger back to the sidelines at LSU.
That effort was ultimately successful, as Mike the Tiger stayed in his cage across the stage but for the first time in nearly a decade LSU brought a live tiger named Omar Bradley into the stadium for the big matchup with Alabama this past Saturday, hoping it would provide an extra spark for Brian Kelly's squad.
However, that excitement did not translate to the field, as Kelly's Tigers were thoroughly beaten by Kalen DeBoer and the Tide to the tune of 42-13.
While out speaking Monday night at an event known as "Politics with a Punch," Governor Landry delivered quite a jab in the direction of LSU and Kelly, according to the Baton Rouge Advocate.
"Our tiger, our live tiger, unfortunately, disappointingly was the only tiger who showed up Saturday. I'm sorry," he shared
After continuing to catch criticism for the decision to bring the live tiger from Florida onto the field for what amounted to a total of about seven minutes in a cage, Landry explained the importance of tradition.
“I’m going to tell you something. This is about tradition, and the thing about tradition is about respecting those who came before you."
"It’s about tradition. At the end of the day, these woke people have tried to take tradition out of this country. It’s tradition that built this country.”
