Applying “If/Then” Methodology to Block Pin and Pull Runs: Using combination calls (“Ted,” “Pop,” etc.) to instruct play side linemen whom to block in the Pin and Pull run game can get pretty expensive, which is why many coaches choose to use the concept more as an auxiliary run. So, when Norfolk Academy (VA) head coach Steve Monninger decided to make it a staple in his menu, he developed an “If/Then” methodology to clean up blocking rules up front and on the perimeter. It’s all based on pre-snap leverage and post snap recognition. In an exclusive X&O Labs clinic report, Coach Monninger details how the “If/Then” methodology is applied to down blocks at the LOS, skip pulls for uncovered linemen and for slot receivers blocking the perimeter. Get this exclusive report from X&O Labs sent directly to your email Tuesday morning. It’s free. Go here to get the report.
