According to the Athens Banner-Herald, Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning has received a significant raise and a contract extension.
Going into his second season as the team's defensive coordinator, Lanning has landed a one-year extension keeping him under contract through the 2022 season as well as a $500,000 bump in pay. That brings his annual salary to $1.25 million. Details of the salary increase were first revealed back in March.
No changes to his buyout terms were made from his contract dated to 2019, the article adds. The changes actually officially took place back in December of 2019, as Lanning was being considered for other high profile coaching opportunities, including one notable one to reportedly rejoin his former boss Mike Norvell, who took over at Florida State.
Lanning's defense in his first year as the team's defensive coordinator led the nation in points per game allowed (12.6) and rushing yards allowed per game (74.6)
The pay bump makes Lanning the highest paid assistant coach on Kirby Smart's staff. New offensive coordinator Todd Monken will make $1.1 million his first season before jumping to $1.25 the second season and $1.4 million in 2023, the final year of his deal.
