Last year at about this time of year, SUNY Cortland head coach Curt Fitzpatrick led his team on a storybook run to their first-ever national championship.
Now Fitzpatrick is reportedly set to make the jump to the FCS level.
Pete Thamel shares this morning that Colgate is set to name Fitzpatrick their new head coach.
Curt spent the past five seasons leading the SUNY Cortland program, setting a school record with 14 wins during the 2023 season while averaging over 46 points per game and over 500 yards of offense while setting school records in a number of other areas as well.
Fresh off another undefeated league record and Empire 8 title, Fitzpatrick has now led the program to four-straight league crowns.
Before becoming the Cortland head coach, Fitzpatrick spent seven seasons at Morrisville State (D-III - NY). While there he led the program to their best season ever, won a share of the New Jersey Athletic Conference, and also won their first Division III playoff game in school history.
He also has previous stops in-state at St. John Fisher College and Utica as an assistant.
At Colgate, he brings a wealth of recruiting ties to his new role as a veteran college coach within New York, and inherits a program coming off a 2-10 season.
Stan Dakosty, who had been a part of 7 of Colgate's 10 Patriot League titles and every FCS playoff win as either a coach or player, had led the program since 2021 (and had been a part of the staff for 17 seasons total), but administration decided to go in a new direction earlier this month.
