It's not uncommon to be at a practice, see a dropped ball by a skill player, and see that player jog off to the side and do some push ups or down ups.
At Alabama, new receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard (who won the 2022 FootballScoop Wide Receivers Coach of the Year Award) is putting additional pressure and expectations on the Crimson Tide receivers.
In Tuscaloosa, if a receiver on the field has a drop, even the receivers on the sideline are paying a price.
"It's a lot of volume. We try to put a lot of pressure on them to be able to continuously perform all throughout the week."
"If we don't catch balls, if someone on the field doesn't catch the ball, guys are on the sideline doing up-downs and they weren't even in the game."
"There's just and expectation for our guys, at this position, that they go out there and catch the football and compete for the football. That's just the way I coach it."
Hear more from Shephard, who developed some of the best receivers in college football the last several years at Washington before following Kalen DeBoer to Alabama, in the clip.
