Michigan State: The Michigan State University Football Strength and Conditioning Staff is accepting applications for volunteer intern coaches to contribute to the Football Sports Performance & Sports Science program for Summer of 2023. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to serve as a Football Sports Performance Intern Coach and assist in all training sessions in compliance with NCAA rules. This is an UNPAID opportunity that provides experience assisting the Football Sports Performance & Football Sports Science staff with the implementation of comprehensive, sport-specific, injury prevention and performance enhancement training programs. In addition to daily responsibilities, this role will assist in Catapult GPS distribution/collection, training data collection/analysis, and operation of all sport science technologies such as Vald ForceDecks and NordBords, as well as Eliteform Velocity Based Training. This internship also includes a professional development curriculum built on the foundation of the Michigan State University football strength and conditioning training philosophies. The curriculum includes education of strength training techniques, sport science technologies and applications, coaching development, sport-specific conditioning concepts, professional development presentations, programming, weight room management/logistics, along with injury prevention practices. The goal of this internship is to develop highly effective strength and conditioning coaches with the potential to transition into a paid position with Michigan State, another university, or professional organization. Potential candidates must have a strong desire to become a collegiate strength and conditioning coach, possess an enthusiastic spirit, strong character, and demonstrate effective organizational and communication skills. Applicants must also have current CPR/AED certification. Interns will have the opportunity to fulfill requirements for the CSCCA’s SCCC certification. Eastern Michigan: Eastern Michigan University is seeking qualified applicants for one Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning/Sports Performance Coach. The primary responsibility of the position is to oversee all aspects of physical preparation for assigned sport teams (2-3 Olympic teams) and a priority assisting with football. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting in the implementation of training programs for all other sport teams, maintenance and upkeep of all three weight rooms, and performing other daily tasks as required by the Sports Performance Staff. Not only will the position provide the successful applicant with job experience in a Division I weight room as well as a tuition reimbursement for a master's degree in exercise science. It will also provide hands-on experience working with industry leading sports science tools and resources. These experiences include: Force Plates, velocity based training, GPS player tracking, heart rate and player load monitoring, etc. Applicants must possess current CSCS, SCCC certification as well as First Aid/CPR/AED certification. A Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Exercise Science or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will have previous coaching experience in a competitive collegiate strength and conditioning program, having preferably worked with both male and female athletes in a variety of sports. William & Mary (FCS): The College of William and Mary is seeking volunteer Strength and Conditioning interns for the Summer of 2023. This is an UNPAID position. Accepted applicants will receive practical hands- on experience in strength and conditioning at the Division 1 level, class credit (if applicable), the opportunity to participate in the intern education curriculum, and future professional recommendation and referral contingent upon performance. The approximate duration will be May 31 st to August 4th. Preferred Qualifications: SCCC, CSCS, or USAW certification (or in the process of obtaining any or all of the aforementioned certifications), previous coaching experience, First Aid/CPR/AED training, hunger & desire to become a strength and conditioning professional at the collegiate level, a STRONG work ethic, and effective communication/teamwork skills. Responsibilities: Assist full time coaches in implementing programs, set up and break down of training sessions, weight room maintenance and upkeep, execution of internship curriculum assignments and projects and any other tasks or projects assigned by staff as they arise. Responsibilities also include data collection with technologies such as Enode Pro, Dashr, NordBord, Catapult, First Beat and Gymaware.
