How St. Thomas Builds Its Man Pressure Package Using Hug Rushes, Wrap Rushes and Flush Rushes: St. Thomas built its defensive brand on pressure and that philosophy has carried from Division 3 to the FCS ranks where this season the Tommies finished fourth in total defense (290 ypg), fourth in scoring defense (17.2 ppg), third in 3rd down efficiency (.29%) and tied for 7th in team sacks (3.09). Previously a 3-deep, 3-under zone pressure outfit, once recruiting leveled up, defensive coordinator Wallie Kuchinski shifted to more man pressures, which attacked protections better and are less expensive in coverage.
