New Mexico: Rocky Long has just announced that he is stepping down as head coach at New Mexico. "Coach Long's decision to step down was unexpected," said UNM Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs. "We can't say enough about the accomplishments and contributions that Rocky has made to the University of New Mexico. He is arguably the most successful coach in the history of Lobo football. Because of Rocky's passion and devotion to his alma mater, the program has been elevated and we are optimistic about the future."

Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings (AF2): Former New Orleans Voodoo defensive coordinator, Derek Stingley, has joined the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings in the same capacity. The New Olreans Voodoo announced less than one month ago that it will no longer compete in Arena football.
Northern State University: Position: Full-time Offensive Line Football Coach, 11 month position. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in physical education or related field preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with successful coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate level. Responsibilities: Assistant offensive football coach with other responsibilities assigned by the athletic director. Setting: Northern State University is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. MIT: Head coach Dwight Smith has retired after 30 years serving as football coach at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Smith ended his career 102-159-1. He will remain on as a professor at the prestigious academic institution.
Syracuse: Former Northwestern and Colorado head coach Gary Barnett is interested in the head coaching job at Syracuse. Athletic director Daryl Gross is expected to talk this week with Barnett and Philadelphia Eagles assistant, Mark Whipple. Whipple has won a D1-AA national championship as the head coach at UMASS in 1998.
