Florida: Urban Meyer has been fined $30,000 by the SEC for comments made regarding SEC officials earlier in the week.

Furman: Head coach Bobby Lamb says a change at Furman is possible.  "It's possible," Lamb said. "I guess nothing would surprise me. They might decide to go in another direction. It's a possibility, I realize that, but I have to try to get this team ready to play."

"We never talk about the future of any of our coaches in season," said Furman athletic director Gary Clark, "but the trend isn't what Bobby wants it to be and it's not what any of us wanted, that should be obvious.

"I can only tell you we aren't making any judgments about anything right now," he said. "We will do what we always do -- evaluate things at the end of the season."

Northern State University: Head Football Coach position open.  Northern State University is accepting applications for Head Football Coach.  Bachelor's degree required.  The successful applicant will be responsible for the organization and administration of all facets of a successful NCAA Division II football program, as well as supervising the indoor athletic facility.  Qualified candidates will possess a successful coaching record, and a commitment to the philosophy of NCAA Division II athletics and the academic welfare of the student-athletes.  Review of applicants will begin 11-23-2009.  Position is open until filled with a January 1, 2010 start date.  For more information regarding this position, and to apply, visit: https://yourfuture.sdbor.edu.  Click on Northern State University in the Quick Search section.  The system will guide you through the electronic application form.  Finalists may be subject to a background investigation.  Any offer of employment is contingent upon a review of the results of the background investigation by the Human Resources office.  AA/EOE

Cleveland Browns: Peter King reports the Browns owe over $20 million to former coaches and GM's.  Former head coach Romeo Crennel is under contract through 2011.  Former GM Phil Savage is under contract through 2012.  With the firing of GM George Kokinis, the Browns now owe over $20 to former coaches, assistant coaches, and front office personnel.

Northern State (South Dakota): Head coach Chris Boden and defensive coordinator Richard Sweeney will not return.

Florida State: Veteran defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews announced this morning that he will retire at the end of the season.  It will be interesting to see if Jimbo Fisher tries to lure West Virginia defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel to replace Andrews as defensive coordinator.  Fisher's offensive line coach, Rick Trickett, coached with Casteel at West Virginia from 2001-2006.  Casteel's 3-3 stack defensive front would go against the FSU traditional 4-down front, but enticing 5-star defensive line talent to FSU isn't as easy as the old days.  There is plenty of recruiting competition (UF, Miami, USF, TN, UGA) for pass rushing defensive ends in the state of Florida.

Utah: Head coach Kyle Whittingham is making a change with his offensive play caller.  Wide receivers coach Aaron Roderick will now call the plays.  Roderick will move to the press box and Dave Schramm will now coach from the sidelines.

Georgia State: We are hearing that head coach Bill Curry will make volunteer assistant Todd Perry the new tight ends coach at Georgia State.  Perry, a former player for Curry at Kentucky, joined the staff last spring.

Major Applewhite & Kirby Smart: Agents are telling us that athletic directors have noticed the success of young head coaches like Lane Kiffin and Josh McDaniels.  One AD (who probably won't be hiring) mentioned that he wouldn't hesitate to ask permission to interview young coaches like Major Applewhite or Kirby Smart.

Iowa: Head coach Kirk Ferentz is officially the state of Iowa's highest paid employee.  Ferentz made $258,000 per month in the fiscal year that ended on June 30.
