Boston College: 3 pm eastern press conference set with just the AD.  ESPN is now reporting defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani will be named interim head coach.

Bowling Green: Sources tell us that Warren Ruggiero has accepted the offensive coordinator job at Bowling Green.  Ruggiero served as the quarterbacks coach at Kansas State last season.

Green Bay Packers: Former San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan is the leading candidate to become defensive coordinator.

San Diego State: As FootballScoop first reported, Dan Ferrigno has officially joined the Aztecs' staff at special teams / tight ends coach.  Ferrigno previously worked at Cal under Jeff Tedford in 2006 and 2007.

Sacramento State: The defensive position has been filled.

Seattle Seahawks: Former Detroit Lions head coach Rod Marinelli is a candidate to join the Seahawks staff.

St. Louis Rams: The Rams will interview New England Patriots quarterbacks coach Josh McDaniels.  Interim head coach Jim Haslett has interviewed.

UT-Martin: Sources tell FootballScoop that head coach Jason Simpson has promoted offensive line coach Geep Wade to offensive coordinator.

Boston College: Head coach Jeff Jagodzinski has interviewed with the NY Jets.

Chicago Bears: We hear linebackers coach Lloyd Lee will not return.

Iowa State: Sources tell us that UNLV running backs coach Kenith Pope will join the Iowa State staff.

North Dakota State: We hear offensive coordinator Pat Perles is a candidate to join both the Ball State and Miami (OH) coaching staffs.  We also hear linebackers coach Kyle Nystrom is a candidate to join the Eastern Michigan coaching staff.

Presbyterian College: In addition to becoming athletic director of Spartanburg district-5 school district, former head coach Bobby Bentley, will return to Byrnes High School (SC) as offensive coordinator.

USC: As FootballScoop first suggested nearly a month ago, Carl Smith has rejoined the Trojans staff as quarterbacks coach.  Smith will also carry the title of assistant head coach for offense.  Smith is expected to call the plays. 

Wesleyan (CT): We hear Rico Brogna is returning to Wesleyan as an assistant coach.  Brogna coach at Wesleyan in 2004 as wide receivers coach.


Averett University: Graduate Assistant Football Position.  Averett University (NCAA Division III, USA South Athletic Conference) located in Danville, Virginia.  This position includes room,  meals , tuition as well as a stipend.  Qualified candidate will coach a position, be responsible for recruiting qualified athletes from a specific recruiting area as well as being involved in monitoring academic progress and aiding in the strength and conditioning program.  Averett offers Masters Degree's in Education and Business.  Computer skills are a must.  Candidates with strong academic background are encouraged to apply.  Email resume and references to Head Football Coach Mike Dunlevy at <This email address is being protected from spambots. Notre Dame College: invites applications for the full time position of Head Football Coach.  This will be a new scholarship program for 2009.  Notre Dame College competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and is a member of the American Mideast Conference.  Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the head coach will possess a high level of academic integrity; competency in football skill instruction; practice and player conditioning; recruitment and retention of student athletes; effective interpersonal and public relations skills. The head coach will work closely with the Director of Athletics in obtaining practice fields, hiring the position staff and purchasing the equipment. The head coach will have an inherent ability to build and maintain positive relationships with student athletes, faculty, administration, staff and the community. The candidate will have an understanding of our mission as a Catholic institution in the tradition of Sisters of Notre Dame who educates a diverse population in the liberal arts for personal, professional and global responsibility.  Preferred Qualifications:

Whittier College (CA): is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Football Coach.  This is a full-time, 10 month position that reports directly to the head football coach an overseen by the Director of Athletics.  Whittier College is a private liberal arts college and a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, SCIAC, as well as NCAA Division III.  The Assistant Football Coach will be responsible for the recruitment, academic monitoring and mentoring of new student-athletes, organization of practices and games and compliance with University, Conference and NCAA rules.  The coach will also have input in the total organization and management of the Whittier football program.  Requirements include quality collegiate coaching experience as a defensive coordinator; bachelor's degree required with a master's preferred. Auburn: FootballScoop has just confirmed that Minnesota Defensive Coordinator Ted Roof has accepted the Defensive Coordinator position at Auburn.

Alabama: We hear Appalachian State linebackers coach Dale Jones and Iowa linebackers coach Erik Johnson are candidates to replace Kevin Steele.

Chicago Bears: Reports are that former Detroit Lions head coach Rod Marinelli will join the Bears' staff as defensive line coach.

Maryland: Sources tell us that former Wyoming defensive coordinator Mike Breske has interviewed at Maryland.

Minnesota: Offensive coordinator Mike Dunbar has resigned.

Presbyterian College: Sources tell FootballScoop that East Carolina assistant coach Phil Petty is the leading candidate to replace Bobby Bentley as head coach. 

South Carolina: We hear that Steve Spurrier has offered the offensive line job to Illinois assistant Eric Wolford.  It is unknown at this time if Spurrier will hire a quarterbacks coach or wide receivers coach to fill the other offensive position.  We have heard the Spurrier has talked with a wide receivers coach over the phone, but this particular coach has not interviewed. We have also heard that Spurrier has spoken with East Carolina assistant Phil Petty, a former South Carolina quarterback.

Texas: Congratulations to Texas wide receivers coach Bobby Kennedy.  His guys showed up in a big way last night in the Fiesta Bowl win over Ohio State.  3 weeks ago, Kennedy was named FootballScoop Wide Receivers Coach of the Year powered by Muscle Milk.

Western Illinois: We hear Western Illinois has a defensive backs job open.

Wyoming: As FootballScoop first reported 2 weeks ago, Rice wide receiver coach Dan Hammerschmidt and Montana offensive line coach Pete Kaligis have started their new positions at Wyoming.


King's College: (NCAA, Division III) located in Wilkes-Barre, PA, has two (2) Intern Coaching positions starting in August 2008.  The job includes room, board, and a stipend. Arkansas Tech: Sources tell FootballScoop that former Southern Arkansas defensive coordinator Jeff Byrd has accepted the defensive coordinator position at Arkansas Tech.

Auburn: Former Arkansas quarterback Rhett Lashlee has accepted the offensive GA position at Auburn.

Detroit Lions: Leslie Frazier (Vikings DC), Mike Mularkey (Falcons OC), Todd Bowles (Dolphins secondary), Rex Ryan (Ravens DC) are expected to interview this week.  Steve Spagnuolo (Giants DC) and Jim Schwartz (Titans DC) have interviewed already.

Illinois State: As we first reported, former Louisiana-Monroe co-defensive coordinator Phil Elmassian has officially joined the Illinois State staff as defensive coordinator.

Iowa State: The Cyclones have announced that former Auburn defensive ends coach Terry Price has joined the staff at Iowa State. 

Louisville: Former Tennessee defensive backs coach Larry Slade, former Utah State head coach Brent Guy, and former Southern Miss offensive coordinator Jay Johnson have all been hired at Louisville. 

LSU: In addition to Ron Cooper, Chicago Bears assistant Brick Haley is expected the join his close friend John Chavis in Baton Rouge.  Haley is a veteran defensive line coach. 

Miami (OH): We hear Mike Haywood is keeping one Miami (OH) assistant. 

Mississippi State: We hear the Dan Mullen is trying to lure North Carolina linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen to Starkville.

New Mexico: As FootballScoop first reported over a week ago, North Dakota State defensive coordinator Willie Mack Garza has now officially joined the staff at New Mexico.

Presbyterian College (SC): Head coach Bobby Bentley is expected to resign today to accept South Carolina high school district 5 athletic director's position.
