South Alabama: As expected, South Alabama has announced the addition of Kelvin Sigler to the staff as corners coach.
Texas: Defensive backs coach Chris Vaughn will not return, per Horns247 who add that the two parties are expected to reach a settlement on his contract. Vaughn previously coached at Ole Miss from 2008-2011 before joining Charlie Strong’s staff at Texas two seasons ago. Update>> Texas has confirmed that Vaughn’s contract will not be renewed.
Samford (FCS – AL): Northwestern State receivers coach Derrick Foster will be the new running backs coach at Samford, source tells FootballScoop.
California: The Bears have formally announced Jake Spavital as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Houston Texans: Sources tell FootballScoop that Kennesaw State (FCS – GA) linebackers coach Shane Bowen has accepted a defensive assistant position with the Texans.
Weber State (FCS – UT): Kelly Bills, who served as an offensive graduate assistant at Utah State last season, is joining the Weber State staff and will coach the wide receivers.
Baylor: Former Texas State offensive line coach Brad Bedell is now an offensive quality control coach at Baylor.
Southern Miss: Alcorn State defensive line coach Derek Nicholson will join the Southern Miss staff according to the Jackson Clarion-Ledger.
Arizona: Per source, Chris Singletary will be the new director of recruiting at Arizona. Singletary previously worked at Michigan under Rich Rodriguez and remained with the Wolverines through last summer. Director of player personnel Matt Dudek is expected to have an expanded role. Will update.
Scoop him up: Derek Deardorff has spent the past four seasons as a graduate assistant, most recently at Hawaii where he worked with the quarterbacks and receivers. In the final four games of the 2015 season, Deardorff coached the running backs, helping running back Paul Harris hit the 1,000 mark on the season. Prior to joining Norm Chow’s staff at Hawaii, Deardorff was a graduate assistant (working with the wide receivers) and special teams coordinator at Tabor College (NAIA – KS) where the team finished 8-2 and 10-3 (with an appearance in the NAIA quarterfinals) in his two seasons. Deardorff has worked alongside quality coaches like Norm Chow, Don Bailey, Mike Gardner, and Tom Mason and he can be reached at [email protected].
Louisiana-Monroe: Sam Houston State (FCS) running backs coach / special teams coordinator Matt Powledge will coordinate the special teams and coach the tight ends at ULM, per a report from SI.
Rocky Mountain College (NAIA – MT): William Penn University (NAIA – IA) offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Chris Stutzriem has been hired at Rocky Mountain College in the same roles, per source.
Mount Ida (D-III – MA): Per source, Dean College (JC – MA) offensive coordinator Matt Chapman is the new offensive line coach at Mount Ida College.
Maine (FCS): Corey Hetherman, who coached the defensive line last season, has been promoted to defensive coordinator. At 32, Hetherman has coached every defensive position over the course of his coaching career.
Davidson (FCS – NC): Former ULM running backs coach / recruiting coordinator Mario Price is the new special teams coordinator and running backs coach, per source.
Ball State: Former Ball State player Keith McKenzie, who coached at Wayne State (D-II – MI) the past past eight seasons most recently as defensive line coach, has joined the staff as defensive line coach.
Lakeland (D-III – WI): Lakeland College seeks qualified candidates for a graduate assistant (wide receivers) to start immediately. Responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all facets of the programs including coaching, recruiting, administrative tasks and off-season program development. Full tuition remission and a competitive stipend is offered. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, graduate school admission, football playing and/or coaching background and effective computer skills. Alcorn State: Per the Clarion-Ledger, defensive backs coach Cedric Thomas has been promoted to defensive coordinator.
South Florida: Former Tampa Bay Bucs quarterback Shaun King will join USF’s staff in a to-be-determined role according to the Tampa Bay Times and ESPN.
Philadelphia Eagles: Per source, former pro director Rick Mueller and former college director Anthony Patch are back with the club in advisory roles. The pair’s longterm roles are likely to be determined after the NFL Draft.
South Florida: Co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Danny Hope will not return to the staff. We understand former Cincinnati offensive line coach Darren Hiller will join the staff as the Bulls’ offensive line coach.
Southern Miss: Per source, Jay Hopson has informed offensive line coach Luke Meadows that he will not be retained. Meadows joined the USM staff in January of 2014 after serving as the offensive line coach / offensive coordinator at FAU.
Purdue: Athletic director Morgan Burke will retire in July of 2017. More details on AD Scoop.
New York Giants: The Giants have hired former Lions general manager Martin Mayhew as director of football operations and special projects, the club has announced.
Michigan: San Jan Jose State assistant head coach / pass game coordinator / wide receivers coach Jimmie Doherty is joining Jim Harbaugh’s staff as an offensive assistant, per SI. Harbaugh had originally offered Doherty a position his first season in Ann Arbor and Doherty had initially accepted the position before other circumstances presented themselves.
Guilford College (D-III – NC): Guilford has an opening for an assistant football coach. Will coach own position and be responsible for own recruiting area. Housing, meals, and a stipend. Please send resume and references to [email protected] No phone calls please.
Texas A&M: Per source, former Miami Dolphins offensive line coach Jim Turner has accepted the offer to return to Texas A&M as offensive line coach, a position he held under Mike Sherman at A&M as well, sources told FootballScoop. Turner had recently accepted the running backs position at the University of Cincinnati.
Morthland (NCCAA – IL): Morthland College is no longer accepting applicants for their assistant coaching and coordinator positions. Thank you for the overwhelming interest in the positions.
The Citadel: Per source, Scott Yielding, the director of player personnel at Illinois, will be the new defensive line coach at The Citadel.

USC: USC notes that athletic director Pat Haden is in stable condition, and is “resting comfortably in a local hospital”.
Emory and Henry (D-III – VA): Head coach Curt Newsome has offered the offensive coordinator job to former Hawaii quarterback Timmy Chang, who spent the past two seasons coordinating the offense at Jackson State (FCS – MS). Also, Eric Tilson, who spent the last three seasons at North Park University (D-III – Chicago, IL), has joined the staff as recruiting coordinator / defensive line coach.
Dayton: The University Of Dayton is currently accepting applications for the position of assistant football coach. The assistant coach will support the head coach in the organization, planning and direction of our Division I football program and will also provide assistance in the strategy and development of the defensive game for each contest. This is a full time, 12-month defensive coaching position with full benefits. The assistant coach will coach the linebacker or secondary positions. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree, Intercollegiate level playing and/or coaching experience with linebackers or secondary, possess good written communication skills, have a valid driver’s license with less than 6 points and be able to work some evenings, weekends and holidays. Preferred qualifications include experience in non-scholarship recruiting, experience in working collegiate sports camps, experience in video editing, good organizational skills, good interpersonal skills, and good basic computer skills.
