Monday: Coaches Quick Hits

Let us know what you are hearing. All sources remain confidential.

Akron: FootballScoop has learned that former Toledo offensive coordinator Chris Hedden has joined the Akron staff. We hear that offensive coordinator Shane Montgomery will move from tight ends to running backs.  Hedden will coach the tight ends.  As we reported last week, head coach JD Brookhart was going to move very quickly in filling the open position.

New Mexico: Assistant coach JB Gerald has resigned.

New Mexico: We are hearing that New Mexico will hold a news conference tomorrow to announce an update on head coach Mike Locksley.  We hear a suspension and/or fine is possible.

Hawaii: We hear Hawaii will be looking to fill a grad assistant position after the season.  Hawaii was not able to hire a new grad assistant when former offensive GA, Craig Stutzmann, left just before the season to accept the wide receivers job at Portland State.

Washington Redskins: According to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora, special teams coordinator Danny Smith and secondary coach Jerry Gray are candidates to step in as interim head coach should the Redskins dismiss Jim Zorn.
Saturday October 10, 2009

Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles are planning to extend the contract of head coach Andy Reid.
Friday October 9, 2009

Clark University - Atlanta: Our sources are telling us the situation at Clark University is getting sort of crazy.  We are hearing that interim head coach Keith Higdon notified running backs coach Ronnie Blackmon that Blackmon was no longer needed.  This comes just 2 days after Higdon was named interim head coach.  We hear Blackmon, a well-respected coach, learned via cell phone voicemail from Higdon.

Akron: It will be interesting to see if Mark Nori gets involved with the open position at Akron.  Nori is out of football at this time, but living in Akron.

Thursday: Coaches Quick Hits

Let us know what you are starting to hear.

Louisiana Swashbucklers: Our sources tell us that offensive line coach Dwight Hudler has resigned.

Akron: With the Zips down a running backs coach, we hear 2 assistant coaches are working together to prepare the running backs.  Our source tells us that the offensive grad assistant has not been elevated to the role of coaching the running backs.  We hear that head coach JD Brookhart will move very quickly to name another assistant coach.  With offensive coordinator Shane Montgomery coming from Miami (OH), one would think perhaps a former Miami (OH) coach that is familar with the offense could be in line.  That doesn't seem likely as the 2008 Miami (OH) running backs coach Jay Graham is now with Spurrier at South Carolina.  The wide receivers coach Brian Von Bergen is now with Montana State.  The other running backs coach that worked under Montgomery at Miami (OH) is DeAndre Smith, who now serves on the staff at UNLV.   It will be interesting to see if JD Brookhart lures a former Akron Zip back to the coaching staff.
Wednesday October 7, 2009 (Update 2)

Akron: We are hearing running backs coach / recruiting coordinator Reno Ferri has resigned his position.

Clark University (Atlanta): Ted Bahhur, who was just dismissed as head football coach, plans to file a lawsuit against the university.  "The whole truth is going to come out and the school is pretty much going to have to accept responsibility. That's all I can say right now," says Bahhur.

Culver-Stockton College (MO): FootballScoop has just learned that head coach Christian Guenther will resign at the end of the season.  Our sources tell us Guenther came to his decision this morning. Culver-Stockton is 0-5 at this point in the season.
