Syracuse University: Our sources tell us that former Northwestern and Colorado head coach Gary Barnett is very interested in the Syracuse job if the job becomes available. The Syracuse administration is aware of Barnett's interest. Read more about Gary Barnett: http://garybarnettfoundation.org/bio.htm
University of Washington: Announced the official hiring of Scott Woodward as the new Director of Athletics. Woodward worked at his alma mater, LSU, as the director of external affairs in the chancellor's office from 2000-2004. He served as the liason from the chancellor's office to the LSU athletic department during Nick Saban's tenure as head coach. Woodward will be interested in Will Muschamp (Texas DC) and/or Derek Dooley (La Teach head coach) if the Washington job becomes available. Both Muschamp and Dooley served under Nick Saban in Baton Rouge.

Duke (Defensive Staff): Playing assignment football and team defense, the Blue Devils limited the nation's leading rushing offense to only 207 rushing yards (73 came on one play). In 2007, Navy led the nation in rushing offense averaging 348 rushing yards per game. Two weeks ago, the Midshipmen looked as usual by rushing for 346 yards vs. Ball State. However, this Saturday was different as a swarming Blue Devil defense limited the Midshipmen to only 207 total rushing yards in the 41-31 win. The Duke defense limited Navy to 4 of 13 third down conversions, recorded 2 sacks, and scored on Vincent Ray's 37 yard fumble return. This has to be encouraging to Blue Devil fans and head coach David Cutcliffe.
Mike MacIntyre (Defensive Coordinator) Marion Hobby (Defensive Coordinator / Defensive Line) Derek Jones (Secondary) Jim Collins (Linebackers)BYU (Offensive Staff): 59 points - 30 first downs - 13 of 17 third down conversions - 521 total yards - and 7 touchdown passes. The Cougars offensive looked like a well oiled machine vs. DeWayne Walker's UCLA defense. The only thing the Cougars did wrong was passing on the first three 1st&10 situations in the 2nd half. Were the 11 2nd half pass attempts really necessary? Maybe in this day of the BCS, they were necessary. Let us know your thoughts by emailing us:
Robert Anae (Offensive Coordinator / Inside Wide Receivers) Lance Reynolds (Assistant Head Coach / Running Backs) Brandon Doman (Quarterbacks) Patrick Higgins (Wide Receivers / Special Teams) Mark Weber (Offensive Line) Steve Clark (Offensive Line) Auburn (Defensive Staff): New defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads has the Auburn defense tackling and finishing plays. The Tigers swarmed a Mississippi State offense all night long, leading to a 3-2 Auburn win. The Tigers limited Mississippi State to 116 total yards, 6 first-downs, and 0 of 14 third-down conversions.
Paul Rhoads (Defensive Coordinator / Secondary) Terry Price (Defensive Ends) Don Donn (Defensive Tackles) James Willis (Linebackers) Travaris Robinson (Defensive Graduate Assistant) Furman (Offensive Staff): In the 42-21 win over Colgate, Furman tallied 26 first-downs, 515 total yards, and converted 5 of 11 third-down opportunities. Most importantly, Furman did not record a turnover versus a Colgate defense that finished 22nd in the nation in total defense in 2007.
Tim Sorrells (Offensive Coordinator / Running Backs) Carroll McCray (Offensive Line) Tony Elliott (Wide Receivers) Drew Cronic (Tight Ends / Recruiting Coordinator) TCU (Defensive Staff): The TCU 4-2-5 defense limited Stanford to 193 total yards and forced 3 turnovers in the 31-14 win. TCU held the Cardinal to 2 of 12 third-down conversions and 10 first-downs. The Cardinal offense actually scored only 1 time as TCU blocked a punt for a touchdown. Sounds like Tight-G, Split-G, Dogs & Smokes were working for the Horned Frogs.
Dick Bumpas (Defensive Coordinator / Defensive Line) Chad Glasgow (Safeties) Clay Jennings (Cornerbacks) Tony Tademy (Linebackers) Trey Haverty (Defensive Graduate Assistant) Michigan State (Defensive Staff): In a rain soaked game, defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi slowed down one of nation's most underrated offensive attacks. Michigan State limited Florida Atlantic to 225 total yards, 9 first-downs, and 2 of 15 third-down conversions. Florida Atlantic quarterback Rusty Smith (2007 Sun Belt Player of the Year) finished 8-34 for 143 yards. The Spartans also recovered 2 fumbles.
Pat Narduzzi (Michigan State) Harlow Barnett (Secondary) Ted Gill (Defensive Line) Mike Tressel (Linebackers / Special Teams)
