Auburn: Contracts were made public on Monday. Gene Chizik is guaranteed to make $1.9 million annually as Auburn's head coach, but he stands to make a lot more if he is successful. Chizik's five-year deal runs through Dec. 31, 2013 and will pay him $500,000 in base salary, $700,000 for personal endorsement rights and $700,000 for radio/Internet/TV appearance fees. But if Auburn achieves success on the field and in the classroom, Chizik can make as much as $1.5 million more in bonuses. Chizik is in line for a win bonus if he gets 10 or more victories in a given season. That figure starts at $75,000 but jumps to as much as $200,000 if he were to duplicate Auburn's 2004 achievement and win 14 games. If Chizik is fired without cause, Auburn would owe him his $500,000 base salary for the remaining years on the contract. If he leaves voluntarily, he would owe Auburn his base salary for the remainder of the contract. It also has a clause that says neither Chizik nor his associates can discuss job opportunities with another school without notifying Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs. Chizik signed his contract June 11. The assistant coaches' contracts also were released. Defensive coordinator Ted Roof ($370,000 annually), offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn ($350,000) and wide receivers coach/assistant head coach Trooper Taylor ($320,000) each signed three-year deals that run through the summer of 2012. The remaining six coaches on the staff signed two-year deals through the summer of 2011. Their base salaries are: defensive line coach Tracy Rocker ($320,000), offensive line coach Jeff Grimes ($290,000), running backs coach/recruiting coordinator Curtis Luper ($260,000), safeties coach Tommy Thigpen ($250,000), cornerbacks coach Phillip Lolley ($210,000) and special-teams coordinator Jay Boulware ($210,000).
Hawaii: Wide receivers coach Ron Lee will no longer call the plays on offense. Offensive line coach Gordy Shaw and quarterback Nick Rolovich will work together calling the plays. "Ron Lee is still my offensive coordinator," Greg McMackin said. "And he called the winning touchdown (last week), so I'm pretty happy with him."
