Monday Morning: Coaches Quick Hits

Arkansas-Monticello: Head coach Gwaine Mathews has hired Wooddale HS (Memphis, TN) head coach Julius Jackson as the new wide receivers coach.  Jackson replace Jafar Williams, who accepted a position on the staff at Howard University.

Millsaps College (MS): We hear former player and student assistant Ronnie Wheat has been hired as outside linebackers coach.  Also, former Independence CC assistant Brett Borden has joined the staff as inside linebackers coach.

LSU: According to a report from ESPN's Chris Low, Les Miles' contract states that LSU must make Miles the highest paid coach in the SEC by at least $1,000.  That would mean that Urban Meyer's new contract is essentially getting Les Miles another raise. 

Florida: Head coach Urban Meyer has agreed to a new 6-year contract worth 24 million dollars.

Stanford: Jordan Sundheim will serve as the offensive GA this year under head coach Jim Harbaugh.  Sundheim will work with the tight ends and special teams.

UCLA: Head coach Rick Neuheisal has voluntarily agreed to take a 10% salary pay cut this year.  He is one of 3 UCLA head coaches to do so, in order to help the athletic department.

Portland State: We are hearing Hawaii grad assistant / assistant receivers coach, Craig Stutzmann, will accept the wide receivers job at Portland State.

South Alabama: Hooper Academy coach Zach Golson has accepted a graduate assistant position under head coach Joey Jones at South Alabama.  The former walkon player at Alabama will work with the Jaguars' defensive coaches.

Ball State: Former Ball State offensive lineman, Dan Gerberry, has been offered a GA position by head coach Stan Parrish.  If Gerberry doesn't stick with the Detroit Lions as a free-agent, he will likely end up back in Muncie, coaching at his alma mater.

South Dakota State: We hear running backs coach Shannon Moore is moving to quarterbacks.  A new grad assistant will coach the running backs.  Shawn Mennenga is the new linebackers coach.  Former player and grad assistant, Josh Davis, will serve as interim wide receivers coach.  Former Wayne State assistant Tim Triplett is serving as the interim tight ends coach.  Former quarterbacks coach Don Bailey is now in the private business world.

Delta State: Graduate assistant Ryan Barker has been promoted to defensive line coach at Delta State.

Boise State: Former University of Oregon player, Damon Griffin, has joined the Boise State staff as defensive graduate assistant.

Kentucky State: Wide receivers coach Wayne Dickens will take over as interim head coach.

Pacific University: Greg Lupfer (Cal Poly - defensive coordinator), Glen Fowles (Willamette University - offensive coordinator), Rick Ponx (North Central College), Keith Buckley (UC-Davis - defensive backs), and Mike Mitchell (Sandpoint HS in Idaho - head coach) were the finalists for the Pacific head coaching job.  Buckley landed the job.

Indianapolis Colts: Tom Moore will carry the title of senior offensive coordinator.  Howard Mudd will carry the title of senior offensive line coach.  Both coaches are back for the start of training camp in their usual roles.

South Carolina State: The school is forcing head coach Buddy Pough to lay off 2 assistants.  It appears defensive line coach Gerald Harrison and asssistant AD for football facilities Brantley Evans could be on the way out.  Pough apparently is working to get both assistants reinstated.

Pacific: UC-Davis assistant head coach Keith Buckley will be the first head coach at Pacific, which begins football in 2010. Wow.

Portland State: We hear PSU is close to naming a new wide receivers coach.  Former wide receivers coach Kevin Strasser accepted the senior offensive consultant job with the Edmonton Eskimos.

Tennessee State: We are hearing that defensive coordinator Rod Reed has added the title of assistant head coach.

West Virginia: Our sources tell that WVU student assistant Chris Demaria has accepted the wide receivers job at Kenyon College.

Oregon:  FootballScoop has learned that Alex Miller is the Ducks new offensive Grad Assistant and former Duck and NFL player Rashad Bauman has become an intern on the staff.

Maryland:  Charles Huff has accepted a Grad Asstistant postion on the Terps staff.  Huff was the Tight Ends / Special Teams coach at Tennessee St.

Baker University:  Brian Boyle will be coaching the D. Line this season and we hear former Kansas City Chief and Philadelphia Eagle Sean Barber will be coaching on the offensive side of the ball.

Rocky Mountain College:  Head coach David Reeves has resigned and OC Brian Armstrong has been named interim head coach.  We hear Reeves is going down to Northern Arizona.  Reeves has been at Rocky Mountain for the past five seasons.

Kentucky State: We hear Ron Cook has accepted a position on the Kentucky State coaching staff.

Northern Michigan: Joe Tanis has accepted the tight ends / fullbacks job at Northern Michigan.  Tanis previously served as the the defensive coordinator at Galesburg-Augusta High School (MI). 

Rocky Moutain College: We hear the head coaching job has come open.

University of Chicago: Kyle Sweeney and Dan Gritti have been named assistant football coaches. Sweeney will serve as defensive coordinator and secondary coach, while Gritti will coach linebackers and oversee special teams for Head Coach Dick Maloney's staff.
