University of Houston:The University of Houston is currently accepting applications for Spring 2012 volunteer interns. Responsibilities will include: 1) Assisting with the development and implementation of sport specific strength & conditioning programs. 2) Organizational and office duties. 3) Daily maintenance of equipment. 3) Restocking of supplementation. 4) Other duties as assigned by strength & conditioning staff. Applicants are expected to assist in daily maintenance and upkeep of student-athlete weight room, and possess strong communication skills and work ethic. Required qualifications: completion or currently pursuing bachelors/masters in exercise science or a related field, and strong desire to become a strength and conditioning coach. Preferred qualifications: proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, completion or currently pursuing NSCA, USAW, or CSCCA certification(s), and previous coaching experience in a team setting. This is a twelve-month exempt position, which includes USM benefits package. Responsibilities: Fitness & Weight room Facility Management, develop customer service expectation and goals for fitness & weight room, inspection and scheduling of maintenance and cleaning of the weight room / fitness area, hire and supervise student workers, hire, supervise and mentor graduate assistants, develop the physical strength, endurance, flexibility and agility of athletes, design a program customized to each sport’s specific needs, provide direct instruction to student-athletes, as well as provide assessment and documentation tools, in order to assure proper explanation of training techniques, document athletes’ workouts, provides physical therapy and assists in the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, advises on prevention and care of athletic injuries, other administrative duties as assigned by the Athletics Director. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in related field. National Strength and Conditioning Association - CSCS Certification. South Dakota State: South Dakota State University is currently accepting applications for a qualified and highly motivated individual looking to further develop their skills, as they relate to strength and conditioning, through an unpaid summer internship. Expectations of the intern include the following - Provide safe and effective coaching on all lifts, movement mechanics, soft tissue and mobility/flexibility work - Willingness to assist in daily maintenance and upkeep of both student-athlete facilities - Strong communication, leadership, integrity, self-confidence and a willingness to learn - Strong work ethic, punctuality, enthusiasm, positivity and a desire to improve one’s self for the possibility of future endeavors in the field- Willingness to work a minimum of 20 hours/week. Preferences of the candidate include the following: Pursuit of future career in strength and conditioning as demonstrated by pursuit of professional certifications (CSCS, CSCC, USAW) and/or continued pursuit of undergraduate degree in a sport science or related field - CPR/First Aid and AED certification - Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel - Knowledge of strength and cardio equipment - Previous coaching experience in a team setting. Benefits to the candidate would include experience in strength and conditioning at a collegiate level, internship manual, potential to earn a recommendation toward further pursuits in the field, further learning of proper exercise technique via staff lifts and the ability to further professional learning and development through staff article discussions.
