UAB: UAB has an opening for a strength and conditioning internship. DURATION: January 13, 2013 through May 10, 2013. COMPENSATION: UAB Gear, Volunteer. RESPONSIBILITIES: Under administrative direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for Strength and Conditioning intern will assist strength & conditioning staff in the implementation of various strength & conditioning programs at the collegiate level. Full exposure and experience in the day-to-day operation of Division I S&C program. Expected to perform a wide variety of tasks that include: Various and assorted administrative duties, Data management, Weight room and equipment up-keep and maintenance, Workout implementation and supervision, Exercise Demonstration & Teaching Technique, Pre-workout preparation, Post-workout analysis, Assistance with warm-ups, cool-downs, performance testing and tracking, Supplement provision, Research,, Projects. Adhere to the rules and regulations of the NCAA, C-USA, and the policies and procedures of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be completing or have completed a degree in Exercise Science or related field. Ideally will have or be pursuing a CSCS, CSCCa or USAW certification. CPR Certification is required. Experience as a collegiate athlete is also preferred but not required. This is a full-time internship (minimum 40 hours/week) intended to develop serious strength and conditioning coaches for their future career in collegiate athletics. Promotion to UAB Graduate Assistantships are possible. Pepperdine: Pepperdine University’s Strength and Conditioning Department is currently seeking qualified intern candidates for the Spring 2013 semester. Applicants should be interested in advancing their career in collegiate strength and conditioning. Duties will include assisting the strength and conditioning staff in all aspects of the s&c program, including design, implementation, daily set-up/breakdown and facility maintenance. Duration of the internship will be performance based, and will begin on January 5th. Individuals chosen for the position are subject to university background checks and standard hiring procedures. This is a non-paid volunteer position, requiring a minimum of 15 hours/week, though more hours will be strongly encouraged. Interns will receive experience working at a Division I program, have the potential to earn recommendations for future career opportunities and receive college credit if applicable. Samford: Samford University Department of Strength and Conditioning (football only) is now accepting applications for the position of Strength and Conditioning VOLUNTEER INTERN. Father Ryan High School (TN): Father Ryan High School is seeking motivated applicants for fitness and strength intern positions for the Spring and Summer semesters.  Father Ryan is located in Nashville, TN and is a Division II AA member of the TSSAA.  The Fitness and Strength Intern must have a commitment to the mission of the school, the community and the student-athletes.  This is an unpaid position, but compensation will be provided in the form of credit hours to a program degree. Merrimack College (MA): Merrimack College is seeking applications for the position of Strength and Conditioning Intern in the Department of Athletics for the Spring 2013 semester. Merrimack is a Catholic Institution with more than 2,000 students, and is a member of NCAA Division I Hockey East and also of the NCAA Division II Northeast-10 conference. Responsibilities for the position will entail assisting in implementation of all aspects of Strength and Conditioning programs for all 22 intercollegiate sports. Responsibilities will include: apply, demonstrate, and instruct exercise, speed and conditioning technique, program design, performance testing, and weight room maintenance. Candidates are required to be working toward a bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field, also pursuing relevant certifications, and have a strong desire to pursue a career in Strength and Conditioning. South Dakota: The University of South Dakota’s Strength and Conditioning Department is looking for a motivated individual who is interested in an internship for the spring of 2013. Qualifications: All applicants must have a background in Exercise Science, Sport Science, Kinesiology or related field. Applicants must also be in pursuit of obtaining a CSCS, USAW, or PES certification as well as being CPR certified. Duties:  Duties will include aiding the strength and conditioning staff with assessments of student athletes, sitting in on meetings when designing programs, implementation of programs, performing proper lifting techniques, motivating athletes, and general maintenance and cleaning of the strength and conditioning facility. Thomas University: Thomas University Strength and Conditioning Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Graduate Assistant. Arkansas State: Arkansas State University is accepting applications for the position of Athletic Performance Volunteer Intern.  Arkansas State University competes at the NCCA Division 1 level, and is a member of the Sun Belt Conference. Applicant will serve the football program as a counted coach.  Daily responsibilities will include assisting with supervision and implementation of all aspects of the Athletic Performance program.  There will also be an detailed internship curriculum that will help the intern further their knowledge in the field of Athletic Performance. Qualifications include:  Pursuing a Bachelors or Master’s Degree in exercise science or a related field; current CPR certification; certification or working towards certifications with the NSCA-CSCS, CSCCA, and/or USAW. Potential candidates must possess a strong work ethic, strong character, be punctual and demonstrate effective organization and communication skills. Successful candidates will be required to schedule and maintain a minimum of 20 hours a week. Compensation: Interns will receive experience working in a highly competitive Division I University, athletic apparel; earn recommendations for future career opportunities and college credit towards graduation if applicable. Prarie View A&M: Prairie View A&M University – Prairie View A&M University is currently seeking applicants for Spring and Summer 2013 UNPAID internship positions. Interns will have the opportunity to work with athletes from all of Prairie View’s 18 Division 1 teams. Daily responsibilities include teaching, demonstrating and correcting technique in the weightroom; assisting in programming for all sports; assisting in the testing of all athletes; and cleaning and maintaining weightroom facilities. This is an unpaid position, but interns can potentially earn course credit from their university if applicable. Other benefits include apparel, the opportunity to gain experience at a Division 1 University, and potential for future references. Applicants must be able to coach male and female athletes effectively. Prior experience in a high school or college athletics setting is preferred but not required. Applicants must be able to teach and demonstrate the Olympic lifts. Certification (or working towards certification) through the NSCA, CSCCa or USAW is preferred. First Aid and CPR/AED certification is required. Applicant should have a strong desire to become a professional strength & conditioning coach. Iowa: Iowa has an opening for a strength and conditioning internship. Job Description: Assist the Olympic strength and conditioning staff in all day-to-day operations of the University of Iowa varsity weight rooms. Duties will include but are not limited to; assisting staff in the implementation of strength and conditioning programs for 23 varsity sports, set up, and breakdown of training equipment and assisting in the maintenance and upkeep of the facility. Mercer: Mercer University, a Division I FCS member of the Pioneer Football League and Atlantic Sun Conference, is currently accepting applications for the position of one (1) Intern Strength Coach. The position is responsible for Assisting the Head Strength Coach in all departmental functions. Duties will include assisting with Mercer University Football’s first ever Offseason / Winter Strength & Conditioning Program in brand new 5,000 square foot weight room and field house. Qualifications required are experience with teaching and demonstrating the Olympic lifts, Power lifts and other exercises to collegiate teams; 6+ months experience in writing and implementing sports performance team work outs; first aid and CPR certified; an accredited certification (preferably CSCS, USAW, or SCCC).
